Good Nutrition Information

nutritionMarch is National Nutrition Month. The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics wants you to know that eating right doesn’t have to be complicated!

We can all do more to better our health. One of the easiest ways to live better and longer is to make better food choices.

Go by the “Dietary Guidelines for Americans” when choosing your next meal:

  • Reach for fruit, vegetables, whole grains and low-fat or fat-free milk and milk products
  • Choose lean cuts of meats, plus poultry, fish, beans, eggs and nuts
  • Keep your diet low in saturated fats, trans fats, salt and sugar

Eat real food when you are hungry! Chose nutrient-rich options that pack a high fiber content. Eating foods high in fiber can help you feel fuller longer and aid in weight loss. Plus, eat the rainbow! Aim for lots of bright colored veggies like sweet potatoes, carrots, peppers and leafy greens. Go easy on starchier vegetables like regular, white potatoes, peas and corn if you are trying to drop weight.

Use healthy oils when cooking and reach for superfoods like avocados and blueberries when snack time rolls around and drink plenty of water!
