Senior Companion Program
Companionship for frail and at-risk elderly
The Senior Companion Program, a Corporation for National and Community Service Senior Corps Program, is sponsored by Graceworks Lutheran Services. Men and women 60 and older, who meet income eligibility guidelines, volunteer 15-25 hours each week in Montgomery, Miami, Clark and Preble counties in Ohio. They serve as companions, providing friendship and assistance to frail elderly persons living alone. They also provide respite services, allowing primary caregivers time for personal tasks. Their services are provided free of charge.
Senior Companions receive tax-free stipends, transportation reimbursement and other tangible benefits to provide volunteer services. Volunteers help save thousands of dollars in respite and institutionalized care, but more importantly, they help their clients retain their dignity and independence.
The Senior Companion Program is funded in part by the Ohio Department of Aging and the Area Agency on Aging.
